Sugar snaps

As the name suggests, sugar snaps are crunchy and sweet. Sugar snaps look a bit like mangetout, but they are a lot rounder and sweeter. When harvested, the seeds are still in the pod and not yet ripe. This is what gives them the delicious, distinctive sweet taste. With a short cooking time, sugar snaps remain crisp and fresh green.

Cultivation calender Sugar Snaps

Ethiopia

In Ethiopia, we work with local farmers and produce sugar snaps six months a year. Because the Ethiopian production sites are located on higher ground, it is possible to grow sugar snaps even in challenging periods.

Egypt

The Egyptian winters are perfect for growing our crisp sugar snaps.

Marocco

At our own cultivation location in Morocco, the sugar snaps get enough sunlight to grow well between the end of February and the end of May.

Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is located in the southern hemisphere of Africa. That means that when it is summer in the Netherlands, it is winter in Zimbabwe. It is precisely those winter temperatures in Zimbabwe that give our sugar snaps that delicious, familiar taste.

Peru

Did you know that in Peru, we largely work with small growers who are represented by a cooperative? About 420 growers receive a fair price for the sugar snaps they cultivate.

Guatemala

From late October to mid-May, sugar snaps are grown in this Central American country. In Guatemala we work with 743 small growers who are united in a cooperation.
